Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Wasim Jaffer has made a massive prediction on the future of the modern-day batting greats – Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma – in T20Is after they missed the home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand.
India’s all-format captain Rohit and former all-format captain Kohli last played T20I cricket in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 against England in the semi-final that India lost. Since then, the duo has been out of the T20I setup, which has led to speculations over their future in 20-over cricket.

Rohit Sharma definitely won’t play the next edition – Wasim Jaffer
Speaking in a video shared on YouTube, Jaffer said that the modern-day batting greats – Kohli and Rohit – were rested for the T20I series considering the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 against Australia National Cricket Team.

He said that the T20I format is for youngsters and added that he doesn’t see Rohit featuring in India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Jaffer, however, felt that Kohli might have a chance to play in the next edition of the T20 World Cup.
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested seeing the bigger picture, with the Tests against Australia coming up. India can qualify for the WTC final. And rightly so. (However) Looking at the future, this game is for youngsters. I actually don’t see Rohit playing in the next T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli may play, but Rohit Sharma definitely won’t play the next edition. He’s already 35,” Jaffer said during an interaction on Pakistan cricket coach Basit Ali’s official YouTube channel.
“So, looking at the bigger picture, it’s important that they are mentally fresh for the Australia series,” Jaffer further said.
